Deborah "Debbie" Sanders ESCONDIDO -- Deborah "Debbie" Sanders passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 8, 2009, after a courageous four and a half year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 37 years, Mike Sanders, her three children, Rebecca Terni (Stephen), Michelle Ambuul (Chris), and Daniel Sanders (Jennifer) and her eight grandchildren. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Depew; mother-in-law, Marcela Sanders; seven siblings; and a large extended family. She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Depew; and father-in-law, Benjamin Sanders. Deborah was born on January 11, 1952, in Los Angeles, California, and was raised in Pasadena, California, where she met her husband. In 1972, she and her husband moved to an avocado ranch in Escondido as newlyweds. She settled into the community as a homemaker and dedicated her life to hospitality for her family and friends from all over the world. She was a warm and fun person with a passion for cooking, gardening, reading, traveling, and communing with nature. Deborah felt she had an incredibly blessed life and she possessed an extraordinary strength and will to live. In her final days, she said, "My life has matched the rhythm of the garden seasons and the beauty, blessings and renewal of nature." She had a deep devotion to her Catholic faith and garnered much strength from the Rosary and Our Lady of Guadalupe. A viewing and Rosary will be held at Mission San Antonio de Pala in Pala on Thursday, November 12th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 13th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mission San Antonio de Pala, Pala Mission Road, P.O. Box 70, Pala, California 92059. Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is handling all arrangements.
